Sony Fontopia Headphones

I finally changed my headphones and headphone-style after two years. I was one of those believers that earbuds are all crap and real sound quality can only come from Studio Monitor over-the-ear pieces. I was wrong.

After reading a lot about Sony and a few other brands that have been trying to improve bass response and noise isolation on earbuds, I decided I’d give a try to the Fontopia style.

Earbuds are certainly more suitable for outdoor environments and traveling than my old Sony MDR-V250 however, sound quality is more important than anything and as a friend of mine said a while ago “i did not pay $350 for an mp3 player to hear it sound like an AM radio station”.

The headphones that come with the iPod are huge, and the sound is too flat. Some people may like it, most people don’t worry about it. I don’t, and I do.

First thing you feel when pluggin’ in the Fontopia headphones is that you have to insert them deep into your ears; it doesn’t hurt because the detachable earbuds are made of silicon, but it may take a while to get used to it. The next thing you notice is the noise isolation, you won’t hear yourself speak except on the low tones (like humming), which is great!!

Bass response is the other concern I had when I bought these earbuds; I’m not a sound expert but I’m sure the bass response on my old Studio Monitor was no better than what I’m getting from the Fontopia, maybe it’s because they are deep in my ears, or because the drives are only 9mm and provide bass frequency response as low as 6hz.

Anyway, this headpones rock!!!
