Shittiest Job Ever

calling people to offer stuff…

2007 January 18

I feel pity for the poor people working for a bank, whose job is to call strangers and offer credit card contracts…

You know the ones. Those girls with soft, friendly voice that call you out of nowhere, know your name and probably a lot more stuff about you, and talk to you about this great offering they have…

I know people who curse the shit out of them and hang up the phone right away, others kindly reject the offer and ask to never be called again…

I can’t do any of those.

I hate interrupting people, so I always let them talk. I don’t give personal information to strangers on the phone, so when she asks if I have a car, or if I have other credit cards, I kindly say: “could be”... She’ll waste both her time and my time giving me reasons not to reject her offer, but it’s all in vain.

After five minutes or so, she usually realizes I’m really not interested and she asks me so. Then, once I’m allowed to talk, I kindly reject the offer and hang up.

Having to do that 8 hours a day must suck real hard.
