And so it begins...

2006.

The year of the Fifa World Cup, of the Presidential Elections in Costa Rica and the aproval of the CAFTA. The year when mp3 players will finally stop being DRM-free, when Mac OS will run on X86 PCs and when this blog might actually serve a useful purpose.

And so it ends 2005. The year Oasis brought back real britpop, Green Day returned to glory and System Of a Down consolidated their reputation.

I upgraded my iPod twice and invested lots of money on my car. Rejected a juicy job offer, got promoted and traveled for the first time to Europe and USA.

A lot of other important things will happen in 2006, but I’ll just ignore or miss them like I did in 2005. The activeness of our generation will take place far from here, and the feeling of being left behind will be encouraged by the media, just like in 2005. We engineers will still see the sunlight thru’ the window, safe in our air-conditioned workplace, blogging our life into the internet and the corporate’s inbox.

A lot of people will spend 2006 in a far worse situation than us; and a lot of people will also spend 2006 in a far better situation than us. Just like in 2005.

Old people will die, and other people will also die without prior notification. We’ll get sad about it, and then get used to it. The sadness that is, not death. Death will always come abrupt.

Enjoy your 2006; and if you have a hard time doing so, try and find motivation in the funny things that hide behind irony…
