It's a Ticos Thing

There’s this thing about ticos that I’m not sure if it replicates on other cultures: I guess we’ve been so down on the line of government and lifestyle dissapointment, that we ended up with this hard-to-explain ironic sense of humor that almost approaches to pride when talking about shames and bad things in our country.

It’s almost like you could persuade a potential tourist to visit Costa Rica by just talking wonders about the bad things down there. Here are some examples:

– “Holes in the street? Man, you have to go to Costa Rica to see what a hole in the street really is. Holes are like this big, seriously!!!”

– “Degraded language? You’ve never been to Costa Rica haven’t you? No matter how good your spanish is, try to have a conversation with a Tico and you’ll understand zero, that’s something worth seeing dude…”

– “Driving Skills? Oh you definitely don’t know the meaning of driving skills until you drive a car downtown San Jose, that’s an unforgettable experience, really…”
