Queue in iTunes = iQueue!
Tired of waiting for a Queue function in iTunes since 4.7, I decided to try Apple’s iTunes SDK for Windows and code my own add-in.
You don’t really need the SDK to start coding; but it comes with a documentation that’s better than nothing. If you installed iTunes (which you need to run this app) you can import the iTunes 1.5 Type Library (aka iTunesLib) COM library in your .NET project and start adding handlers to the few public events that the class exposes.
iQueue v0.9 (beta)
Future versions will have a proper installer, a nicer icon and more functionality, I promise. This beta is experimental; just extract the files and run the ‘iQueue.exe’ file. It will stop the currently playing song (don’t ask!).
From here on, you’ll get a green icon in the tray which you can use to control the iTunes. The important function is called “Add Selected To Queue” and will get the first selected song of your iTunes song list and add it to a – by now invisible – queue. Wait ‘til the current one is over and your queued one will sound.
Pretty simple!, yeah, I know. But it took me a while to get it to work. The API is not straightforward and some things just don’t work! Feel free to play-test the app and post whatever bugs you find in here.
Requirements
- .NET Framework 1.1
- iTunes 5 or higher!
Download
Known Issues
- Adding selections won’t work as expected. (I know)
- Sometimes iQueue won’t work and you have to close and reopen iTunes. (I know that too)
- There’s some sort of skipping or distortion before my queued song plays. (True, working on that…)
- iQueue takes 10Mb of my precious RAM! (Lucky you, it takes 12 on my machine…)
